RackForce services are delivered from our highly resilient SAS70 certified ‘GigaCenter’ in Kelowna, B.C., considered one of the safest places in North America to operate a data center.

Colocation

  • Data center space for client self-managed DR
  • Secure location with very low risk of natural events
  • Partial cabinet up to dedicated private vault options
  • Single (N+1) or dual (2N+1) power
  • 6MW of power
  • Network bandwidth up to 10Gbs; carrier options
  • Eyes & Hands services; staff on-site 7x24

Many organizations have developed a self-managed DR & Resiliency strategy, providing a flexible, customized low cost solution to support their business needs. These solutions typically leverage one of the many easy-to-use data mirroring products on the market. This enables organizations to effectively deploy backup and resiliency solutions with acceptable levels of cost and effort.

The missing component in this approach is an effective remote backup location. This is where RackForce comes in. By renting colocation space in our data center, clients gain the advantages of a resilient, secure facility in a very low risk location. Colocation options range from a single cabinet to private dedicated vaults.

Various on-site Eyes & Hands services and data backup services compliment our colocation services. And to support your DR solution RackForce's private 10Gbs network can provide services with committed SLAs at rates much lower than carrier services. Learn more about Colocation.

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

  • Recovery site virtual server capacity for customized SRM DR solutions
  • Enables failover and rapid recovery of VMware environments
  • Infrastructure optimized for SRM solutions
  • Consulting assistance for client-side implementation

The rapidly advancing capabilities in VMware vCenter have created new options for resiliency and failover solutions. VMware's vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM) provides capabilities to operate high availability Intel-based systems, with hot failover to a second site.

RackForce's infrastructure is SRM enabled and we offer server platforms that can operate as an organizations' second site infrastructure. This eliminates the need for clients to purchase and manage systems for their second site, instead buying capacity as a service.

For clients that wish to install and manage their own second site systems, RackForce's Cisco Nexus LAN and our SRM skills will ensure your resiliency solution is effectively deployed and supported.

Cloud Server DR

  • Standby virtual server capacity, reserved on a subscription basis
  • Pre-configured VMs, commissioned in minutes when an incident is declared
  • Industry leading Cisco and IBM hardware platforms
  • VMware with Microsoft or Linux OS

Traditional DR solutions typically include clients buying a subscription for the use of failover infrastructure, in the event of an incident. Although this model has served the industry well, new technology and more flexible contracts offer a refined approach: Virtual Server Recovery services. In this model organizations buy a subscription to virtual server capacity, instead of physical servers. In the event of an incident virtual servers are quickly commissioned and loaded with the clients' server images. The servers can be made available within minutes, instead of the traditional hours or days. And this approach provides a more cost effective, flexible and scalable solution. In fact, server and storage configurations can be easily changed during the life of the contract, as your needs evolve.

Data Backup

  • Over network backup to secure, resilient data center
  • Customer provided or RackForce provided storage
  • Tivoli Storage Manager for enterprise-class solutions
  • Replication to IBM XIV next generation storage system
  • Backup to tape or off site electronic vaulting available
  • Low cost network options
  • Compliments SRM and Server Recovery services

The most important element of an IT resiliency plan is ensuring your valuable data is safely backed-up offsite. The traditional method of backing-up data to tape and shipping offsite is unreliable, expensive and too manual. Progressive organizations leverage and affordable over-network mirroring and archiving storage technology. These solutions are highly automated and reliable. Many solutions enable organizations to recover their data in increments from individual files to complete databases. And by having your data backed-up to a second site, if you encounter a service interrupt at your facility, your data backup solution will support recovery at the second site. This virtually eliminates lost data and rapidly improves recovery time.

RackForce data backup services can utilize our Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) platform and our IBM XIV storage platform. Or can provide your own storage backup software and hardware platform, colocated at the RackForce GigaCenter.

Work Area Recovery

  • Up to 60 pre-configured workstations in 2 rooms
  • Phone, power and network at each workstation
  • Storage for customer desktop & servers available

Many clients have developed sophisticated resiliency plans that extend beyond recovering their IT systems. Providing a work area - workstation, phone and network connection - for key business resources helps ensure an organization can continue operations in the event of an incident.

Hitching Post for mobile recovery trailers

  • Secure space for mobile recovery trailers
  • Power and network connections
  • Access to building amenities - kitchen, washrooms

Various options can be employed to provision this work area. A creative and effective approach is the use of pre-configured mobile recovery trailers, complete with workstations, power, network connections and air conditioning. These trailers, typically provided by specialized vendors, can be delivered to a pre-determined site within a day or two of an incident being declared.

To support mobile recovery trailers RackForce offers ‘Hitching Posts’, pre-installed connections for power and network, supporting trailer operation at the RackForce site. Available on a subscription basis, the Hitching Post service ensures an organization's mobile recovery solution can be quickly and reliably deployed at the time of an incident.
